Hospice of Southern Maine

Who We Are

At Hospice of Southern Maine, our mission is to provide compassion, care and comfort through end of life for patients with life-limiting illnesses, and support for their families. Our comprehensive options for supportive care include services at The Gosnell Memorial Hospice House, the comfort of your home, or long-term care and assisted living facilities.

What We Do

Hospice is care that aims at providing comfort rather than curing a disease process. Hospice is provided to those with a limited life expectancy of 6 months or less. The care is delivered by a team of expertly trained individuals including physicians, nurses, hospice aides, social workers, volunteers, chaplains and bereavement counselors. Hospice provides care for the patient and support for the family. Hospice provides comfort for physical symptoms, such as pain, and for emotional, social and spiritual distress as well. Whether providing care in a private home, long-term care facility, assisted living facility, hospital or at the Gosnell Memorial Hospice House, we offer a full range of hospice services. Our services include visits by a team of highly trained hospice employees and volunteers. These include physicians, nurse practitioners, hospice aides, social workers, chaplains, and volunteers. We also provide bereavement services to loved ones for up to 13 months. We coordinate pharmacy and durable medical equipment needs and put a comprehensive plan in place to manage all of the comfort needs related to the terminal illness. Hospice of Southern Maine is licensed by the State of Maine and is a Medicare-certified agency. Medicare, MaineCare, many private insurers and community donations pay for end of life care at Hospice of Southern Maine.
